Mole Antonelliana
The Mole Antonelliana, a symbolic monument of the city of Turin, owes its fame to its original and imposing shape. Begun in 1862 as a Jewish temple, its construction was then expanded in 1878 with the addition of the lantern and the final truncated-conical elements.
Completed in 1889 by Costanzo Antonelli, son of the architect Alessandro Antonelli who had conceived the project, the Mole Antonelliana rises 163.35 metres, making it one of the tallest masonry buildings in the world.
The spire of the Mole Antonelliana is dominated by a figure of a winged genius. In 1953, a violent storm damaged the spire, which was replaced by a metal structure covered in stone, which we still admire today.
A panoramic lift allows visitors to reach the small temple under the spire, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city of Turin.
Currently, the Mole Antonelliana houses the National Cinema Museum, a fascinating place that celebrates the art and history of cinema around the world.
